46 Students from Cikal Surabaya School Win 24 Medals at the 2024 International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest (IKMC)

SURABAYA, KalderaNews.com – A total of 46 students from Cikal Surabaya School, including 27 from elementary, 11 from middle school, and 8 from high school, showcased their skills at the International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest (IKMC).

In this competition, which attracted 96,000 students across Indonesia, the Cikal Surabaya participants secured 24 medals: 12 medals (6 silver and 6 bronze) at the elementary level, and 12 medals (8 silver and 4 bronze) at the middle and high school levels.

This mathematics competition has been held since 1991 by the Association Kangourou Sans Frontières (AKSF) in France and is participated in by many schools and students from over 98 countries.

Iryani Endah Febrianti, an educator at Cikal Surabaya School, explained that in the learning process, students are encouraged to choose challenges that align with their interests and talents, particularly in mathematics.

“The students at Cikal Surabaya are eager to participate in this competition to gain experience and sharpen their skills. We also recognize that some students have a strong interest in mathematics, allowing them to challenge themselves through this competition,” she said.

Before participating in the competition, the students prepared by regularly practicing problems at school, with strong support from their parents during both training and the competition itself.

“The students prepared by studying practice problems provided by their teachers and the organizing committee. We noticed their enthusiasm was high, and parents were very supportive of this opportunity,” she added.

Iryani also emphasized that Cikal Surabaya School consistently provides up-to-date information regarding competitions and various self-development opportunities for students.

“We always inform parents about competition events, and if children are interested, we offer support and assist with their registration,” she mentioned.

Ira stated that all educators at Cikal Surabaya School highly appreciate the students’ courage and the achievements they attained at the IKMC.

“We, the educators, greatly admire the bravery of the students. We know they have many commitments, yet they remain enthusiastic and willing to take on challenges that may be beyond their level. These students are extraordinary; they see this event as an opportunity to enhance their experience, skills, and values,” she added.
