JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com – One of the priorities of ASEAN and EU cooperation as summarized in the ASEAN-EU Blue Book 2024-2025 which was launched at the ASEAN Secretariat Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 May 2024 is academic cooperation.

EU-ASEAN academic cooperation plays an important role in fostering a dynamic partnership between the EU and ASEAN.

One of the main initiatives in this collaboration is the Erasmus+ program. This flagship program offers a transformative platform for students, academics and educational institutions from both regions to engage in a variety of collaborative activities.

Through mobility opportunities, such as student exchange programs and training staff, Erasmus+ fosters a network of talented individuals who actively contribute to socio-economic and cultural development for the creation of mutually beneficial and lasting partnerships.

Apart from that, in the realm of academic cooperation there are Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) Scholarships. This master’s scholarship program is designed and awarded by a higher consortium.

Through this scholarship program, EU encourages excellence and internationalization of participating institutions.

190 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) Scholarships

Hjayceelyn M. Quintana, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN and Country Coordinator for ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations at the launch of the ASEAN-EU Blue Book 2024-2025 appreciated the important figures related to this scholarship.

A total of 190 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) Scholarships are competed for annually by more than 200 ASEAN students.

Meanwhile, in the 2014-2023 period, there were 1,643 Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM).

Furthermore, in the same period, 11,755 students and teachers from ASEAN universities have received International Credit Mobility scholarships to undertake short-term studies, teaching and training in Europe.

Not only that, in the same week, 5,950 European students and staff worked or studied in ASEAN member countries under the Erasmus+ program.

He also hopes that this program will be further strengthened in the context of the EU-ASEAN cooperation strategy.
