JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com – Hari Buruh Internasional atau kerap disebut May Day dirayakan setiap 1 Mei. Hari ini merupakan peringatan perjuangan bersejarah yang dilakukan oleh pekerja dan gerakan buruh, di banyak negara.

Pada 1889, federasi internasional dari kelompok sosialis dan serikat buruh menetapkan 1 Mei sebagai hari untuk mendukung para pekerja, untuk memperingati Kerusuhan Haymarket di Chicago (1886).

Inilah yang menjadi cikal bakal peringatan Hari Buruh Internasional yang meluas ke hampir seluruh negara di dunia.

Sejak 1920, Indonesia memperingati tanggal 1 Mei sebagai Hari Buruh sampai sekarang. Namun, baru pada tahun 2014, Hari Buruh di Indonesia resmi menjadi hari libur nasional. Keputusan ini diambil oleh Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada 29 Juli 2013.
