Six Short Courses or Training Scholarships for International Students

JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com – If you want to improve academically and professionally but don’t have the time and money to pursue full time studies, trainings or  short courses are just right for you:

1. Hubert Humphrey Fellowships (USA)

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program provides a year of professional enrichment in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries throughout the world.   The Fellowship provides ten months of non-degree academic study and related professional experiences in the United States. The fellowships provide tuition fees, maintenance allowance, insurance, travel costs, English language training, etc.

Please contact the U.S. Embassy, Public Affairs Section or Fulbright Commission in your country of residence to learn about possible specific program requirements. Application deadlines vary by country but falls around May to September each year.

2. Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD) (USA)

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (also known as the Global UGRAD Program) provides one semester scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students from around the world for non-degree full-time study combined with community service, professional development, and cultural enrichment. The scholarship will cover international travel, tuition, room and board, accident/sickness insurance, a small monthly stipend, and funding for books.

Host institutions are expected to demonstrate significant cost share commitments. Examples include in-state tuition instead of out-of-state, housing waivers, significant tuition discounts or scholarships, and housing and fee reductions. The scholarship will cover one academic semester.

3. Future Global Leaders Fellowship (USA)

Freshmen students are invited to apply to the 2017 Future Global Leaders Fellowship, an internationally competitive program granting first generation and low-income students entry into the Fortis Society – the world’s first private network for diverse leaders. This program has gathered students from leading universities worldwide including; Harvard University, the University of Oxford, Sciences Po, and Peking University. All programme costs are covered the by the Future Leaders Foundation.

Applicants must be first-year university students and must fit the following eligibility criteria:

– First-Generation or Low-Income University Student – students who do not have a family history of higher education, or who come from a low-income background.
– Track Record of Academic Excellence – throughout high school and during the first months of the current school year.
– Proven Leadership Abilities – through self-started initiatives and ventures, or leadership in their schools or communities.

4. Endeavour VET Scholarship (Australia)

The Endeavour VET Scholarship provides financial support for international applicants to undertake VET at a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level in any field in Australia for up to two and a half years. The scholarship includes travel allowance, establishment allowance, and monthly stipend.

The scholarship value is up to $131,000. It includes travel allowance ($AUD 3,000), establishment allowance ($AUD 4,000), monthly stipend ($AUD 3,000; up to maximum programme duration on a pro-rata basis). Health and travel insurance will also be provided.  It will also include tuition fees up to the maximum study duration (up to $13,000 per calendar year). Applications for the 2019 round are expected to open in late April 2018.

5. Talent for Governance Training Scholarships (Netherlands)

The overall aim of Talent for Governance is to strengthen local governments in developing countries and Eastern European (non-EU) countries through training of young civil servants from these countries.  The Talent programme will generally cover all basic living expenses during the stay in the Netherlands, travel costs and the training course fee of the chosen training course. The talent must cover any additional costs from their own resources, and also contribute 100 Euros or 200 Euros to their programme costs.

The Talent for Governance programme covers the cost of tuition fee, travel costs, accommodation and most living expenses in The Netherlands. The talents are asked to contribute 150 Euros towards the programme costs.

6. VLIR-UOS Training Scholarships (Belgium)

VLIR-UOS awards scholarships  to students from developing countries to undertake English-taught training programmes at Belgian Universities. The scholarships cover allowance, travel costs, accommodation, insurance, tuition fees, and other program related costs.

VLIR-UOS only provides full scholarships for the total duration of the training or Master. The scholarships cover allowance, accommodation, insurance, international travel and tuition fee. Read more at this link.

Applications to many programmes are still open while others are already closed. Please check the application schedule of your programme of choice.

To apply for a scholarship, you first need to apply for the training or Master programme. Applications submitted by the candidates to VLIR-UOS directly will not be considered. To apply for a training or Master programme, visit the website of the training or Master programme of your interest. In the programme application, you can mention whether you wish to apply for a scholarship. The deadline varies and are determined by the Master’s or Training programme but those programmes which are still open have deadlines falling around January-March 2018.
